We’ve created a gofundme page to help send kids to school or dugsi quran (Quran school).We were recording an episode on our podcast, The Abwaan Chronicles Podcast, with regards to how we can help our people back home and we realized we often delay things. How can we, specifically as diaspora in Canada, Sweden and the UK, help? We always say “when I finish school” “after I find a good job” “once I’m financially stable” and honestly, that time never comes. We did not want to join the “we will help Somalia eventually" bandwagon. This is something we thought of as we were recording and wanted to commit to.
From when we last recorded Episode 14- Do we have a duty to Somalia? ft SSCOPE , we have been trying to bring this idea to life and have been communicating with people we know in Somalia. We asked them to find children who, due to lack of funds, were unable to attend school.
This is a project that we are committing to ourselves first. We will start small and raise funds for up to 5 children . We are trying to ensure that we will be able to pay for their tuition + additional fees for an entire year and hopefully continue until they finish high school. The money we raise would cover tuition, books, uniforms, transportation and school meals. The breakdown is as follows:
Tawakal exchange rate 1.33

*Tuition fee = $15/mo
$15 x 3(kids) x 12 (months) = $540USD ($720CAD)
2 of 5 kids
*Tuition fee = $8/mo
$8 x 2(kids) x 12 (months) = $192USD ( $256CAD)
Uniform + Books (one time payment)
$15x 2 (kids) = $30USD ($40CAD)
Remittance fee (Tawakal express)
5% = $50
TOTAL TUITION= $812USD = $1080CAD
Service fee (GoFundMe)
2.9% = $24USD = 32CAD
Overall Total = $1115CAD
*different fees because children live in different areas/different schools.
Additional details below:
Ikran will be withdrawing the funds and transferring them to our contacts (Lul Abdullahi & Ramadan Ali) who will in turn pay the fees to the schools directly.
This is something that the 5 of us are taking on and we are sharing it with any of you who would like a share in the reward by helping these children.
Although our goal for now is to help these five children, our hope is to raise enough money by August 2018, this will allow us to add more students to the roster.
Please donate even if its a dollar and/or share so that you may share the reward. With this there is double; whatever khair they learn you are getting rewarded + that of giving sadaqah.

يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اَنۡفِقُوۡا مِمَّا رَزَقۡنٰكُمۡ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِ اَنۡ يَّاۡتِىَ يَوۡمٌ لَّا بَيۡعٌ فِيۡهِ وَلَا خُلَّةٌ وَّلَا شَفَاعَةٌ ؕ وَالۡكٰفِرُوۡنَ هُمُ الظّٰلِمُوۡنَ
O you who believe! Spend out of what We have provided you before there comes a Day when there will be no buying and selling, nor will friendship and intercession be of any avail. Indeed those who disbelieve are the wrong-doers. (2:254)
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased)." [Muslim].
